Kickoff/Punt Returner

Why it’s a need: Last season began somewhat comically with one of the NFL’s best safeties, Earl Thomas, trying to fill in as a return man. I say it was comical only now, months after the fact. At the time we were all wondering if Pete Carroll was crazy for putting Thomas in such a dangerous situation.

Luckily the return game ended up seeing way more of WR Bryan Walters and Doug Baldwin than it did Thomas.

Walters would become the Seahawks’ main punt returner and would average less than 8 yards per return, rarely providing any real explosiveness or excitement. He was ultimately allowed to leave, ending up with the Jaguars and former Seahawks defensive coordinator Gus Bradley.

Recently Carroll mentioned backup QB B.J. Daniels as a candidate to take over return duties but I would imagine Seattle will look to draft someone specifically for that role later in the draft.
