Not a day goes by in the NFL offseason where a free agent has a scheduled visit or a player leaves his former team to sign with a new one.

The Seahawks were involved in both instances as safety Jeron Johnson tweeted yesterday that he has indeed signed a new deal with the Washington Redskins, reportedly agreeing to a two-year, $4 million contract.

Johnson becomes the second member of the Legion of Boom to depart this offseason. Cornerback Byron Maxwell inked a massive contract with the Philadelphia Eagles last week. Our own Keith Myers labeled it as the worst free agent deal of the offseason.

As most players do, at least the ones that have the good fortune of playing for the Seahawks – Johnson tweeted a thank you to the 12’s, as well as former teammates and coaches.

"To the #12thMan I want to say thank you for the great 4 years! Big thank you to Schneider and Pete for giving me the opportunity. To my teammates Love all yall it was a good run man appreciate everyone of yall (sic). LOB!!!!!!"

Greg Hardy plans a visit to Seattle

Former Carolina Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy is also a free agent and has been drawing heavy interest from the Dallas Cowboys, whom he plans to visit. The Cowboys aren’t the only team that has a mutual interest in his services. Hardy plans to travel to Seattle and visit with the Seahawks as well.

Hardy is a wild card, having only played in one game last season stemming from a domestic violence accusation. The case was thrown out after the alleged victim wasn’t able to be located. This however doesn’t mean the league will allow Hardy to play without at least a suspension.

In the games that Hardy has played he’s been one of the most productive end’s in the NFL. In the past 15 games Hardy has an amazing 16 sacks. It’s something he and his agent will surely use to drive his value up, while every team that enters into contract talks will argue that his off-field issues are a major concern, trying to bring the price back down to under market value.

Obviously the violence, if true, is a huge character issue the Seahawks front office will have to evaluate. It might not translate into the locker room, but the Percy Harvin situation was a clear indicator that Seattle’s staff will not allow anything to disrupt the chemistry that the current players have created for themselves.
