Seattle Seahawks hosting center Chris Myers
By Keith Myers
According to reports from Adam Schefter, the Seattle Seahawks are hosting former Houston Texans center Chris Myers. Myers is a 10-year veteran.
Myers was drafted by the Denver Broncos, and has spent most of his career with the Houston Texans. Having played 10 seasons in those offenses, he clearly understands and is able to play in a zone blocking scheme like the one Seattle uses.
Although Myers is a two-time Pro Bowler, his best days are clearly behind him in the NFL. He doesn’t represent a long-term answer at the position, but rather a one-year stop gap to give a rookie a chance to learn the system before being thrust into a starting role.
The Seahawks have been in the market for a center ever since trading Max Unger to the Saints as part of the Jimmy Graham trade. Myers is the fourth veteran center that the Seahawks have brought in this offseason. Two of the other three have signed elsewhere.
As I wrote yesterday, general manager John Schneider loves to fill in his roster with fall-back options in case the draft doesn’t fall as he has planned. Signing Myers would definitely fit that description.
Stefen Wisniewski on the other hand would have been a long-term solution. He’s a young player, who is only still available because he is coming off of a shoulder surgery. If his contract demands come down, he is still an option to sign with the Seahawks.
