Seattle Seahawks Deep Roster Sleepers
By Dan Viens
The Seahawks were very vocal about the potential candidacy of Patrick Lewis as the heir apparent to Max Unger as the starting center, but G.M. John Schneider also pointed out they have some interior offensive linemen on their practice squad they like.
They’ve dabbled in free agency at the position, but Shelley Smith signed with Denver, they’ve kicked the tires on Dan Connolley and Chris Myers, and previous VMAC visitor Stephen Wisniewski still hasn’t signed with anyone yet. Clearly, they want to add to the O-line after trading Unger and losing James Carpenter to free agency. Ideally, they can find players both productive and cheap, either through the draft….. or from this list.
C.J. Davis – G, 6’2″, 308, 28: One of the oldest players on this list, Davis also has the most NFL appearances of any of them, playing in 14 games for the Broncos and Panthers between 2010 and 2012.
Nate Isles – G, 6’5″, 348, 23: Played his college ball at North Carolina AT&T. Massive, versatile athlete who played DT his freshman year in college, then mostly RT after that before moving inside as a pro prospect. Strong, with a 104″ wingspan. Will get a long look in camp.
Jared Wheeler, C/Justin Renfrow, G: Both University of Miami products, Wheeler only started 6 games in college but played in 38 over his career at just about every position on the line. We know how much Tom Cable values that kind of versatility. Renfrow was a Nose Tackle for the ‘Canes but is trying to make a similar conversion to OG that has worked so well for J.R. Sweezy.
Drew Nowack – G, 6’3″, 292, 25: Another DL-to-OL conversion. Nowack was signed as an UDFA by Jacksonville in 2012 and has spent most of the last two years on their IR list or active roster, appearing in 2 games.
