Seattle Seahawks Deep Roster Sleepers
By Dan Viens
The Seahawks are always looking for unique, athletic players to add to the defensive front 7 and special teams. Here are a few intriguing possibilities:
Mike Taylor – OLB, 6’2″, 222, 25: On and off the practice squad since late 2013, Taylor was a prolific player at Wisconsin, racking up 47 starts over his 4 years, with 377 tackles, 7 sacks and 5 INT’s. With Malcom Smith leaving as a free agent, there’s an opportunity for an OLB who can cover and play special teams.
Mister Alexander – ILB, 6’3″, 252, 26: Awesome name, and one of the only players on this list with a Wikipedia page! Alexander has bounced around the CFL and last played for the Texans. Will be tough to make the roster as a MLB with Brock Coyle having the inside track to return as Bobby Wagner’s backup.
Brendan Kelly – DE, 6’6″, 255, 24: Intriguing because of his length, Kelly played in 45 games for the Badgers……. over his SIX year career. See, that’s the thing with Kelly, he’s usually injured. It cost him a redshirt year in Wisconsin, and then he was granted a 6th year of eligibility after another injury. Then he injured his hamstring during combine/pro day season and went undrafted last year. Not an explosive athlete, he’ll have to stay healthy, show he can get to the QB and impress early to get one last shot.
