SURPRISE! In walks All Pro cornerback for the Seattle Seahawks Richard Sherman. And it wasn’t an April fool’s joke. According to the Los Angeles Times, he visited his old high school, Compton Dominguez High on Wednesday, April 1st, 2015.

Remember when you were in math class, one hand propping up your head while you stare at the board trying to make sense of what your teacher was teaching. And you thought “when am I going to ever use this stuff? I’m not going to even remember how to do the problems!” Richard Sherman was presented with a pre-calculus equation and had a hard time solving it. (Sure he probably knew how to solve it, but just couldn’t remember at the moment.)

“I can’t remember much past trigonometry,” he said.

However, he did end up getting it solved. He looked through the front row and found a student to help him solve the equation; much like he does on the field with his fellow “Legion of Boom” defense.  He gave a special message to the students that day:

“You will be confronted with challenges, you need to use your intellect to get past them, and giving up is not an option. If you put in the work, put in the time, put in the effort, you’re going to reap the benefits,” said Sherman, “but if you don’t put in the work and the effort, you can’t expect to be successful.”

The school held an assembly for him in the gymnasium and held a question and answer seminar before he walked up and down the bleachers taking selfies with the students.

Senior football player, Alvin Lepule, was mesmerized by the visit and talk: “Richard Sherman is an inspiration and role model to us kids. He shows us he cares about this city and us kids.”
