Seahawks Draft Needs: Shopping For Tackles?
By Dan Viens
Ask around about Justin Britt’s rookie performance as the Seahawks starting Right Tackle and you’ll get responses all over the board. At times he looked lost, and other times dominant. There’s been a lot of speculation this offseason about the possibility of drafting a Right Tackle and moving Britt to Left Guard. Some draft prospect rankings projected him as a possible guard because of his initial punch and lack of elite athleticism necessary to play outside.
But here’s the thing; Britt has never played guard.
And here’s another thing; he’s 6’6″. There’s been ample speculation recently that the Seahawks might be shying away from taller interior lineman as they seek to build a better pocket and open up throwing lanes for their vertically challenged franchise QB. It may work out as a one-year fix but not long-term. (This is called foreshadowing…. read on.)
I see the idea of moving Britt to Guard as a risky one. He clearly made strides as the season progressed. As a second round pick, he could be an affordable, long-term solution at RT. Ask yourself, do you like the prospect of starting the season with brand new (and possibly rookie) starters at RT and C, AND with Britt learning Guard on the job?
Neither do I.
Next idea……..
