Russell Wilson’s First 3 Seasons Are Historic

Former Miami Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino, Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck, Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning, Green Bay Quarterback Aaron Rodgers and former NFL quarterback Randall Cunningham.

The names listed above are Hall of Famers, future Hall of Famers or potential Hall of Famers. To be mentioned with any of these names is quite a compliment.

Russell Wilson is mentioned with all of them.

HE’S 1 OF 2 PLAYERS WITH 50-PLUS PASSING TD’S & 1,000-PLUS RUSHING YARDS IN ANY TWO-YEAR SPAN (Randall Cunningham)

HE’S 1 OF 3 QUARTERBACKS TO THROW AT LEAST 50 TD’S IN HIS FIRST 2 SEASONS (Dan Marino, Peyton Manning)

HE HAS THE MOST REGULAR SEASON WINS BY A STARTING QB IN HIS FIRST 3 SEASONS

HE’S 10-1 VS SUPER BOWL-WINNING QUARTERBACKS (Manning, Manning, Rodgers, Breese, Brady)

Even with impressive stats like that, a debate continues about Wilson’s spot among the elite quarterbacks in the game today. As a Seattle Seahawks fan and Russell Wilson fan I get frustrated with that. He deserves more praise on the national stage. If he played for the New York Seahawks it’s doubtful the debate would exist.

I have a feeling Wilson is just fine with the questions about his abilities. He’s a winner and has been at every level of football. His leadership style is about setting examples, not just using words. This is done in the huddle and in the community.

Wilson is a supporter of Seattle, Washington and its citizens. His work with kids who are battling diseases at Seattle Children’s Hospital is inspiring. Yet, he does it because he wants to and he loves it, not as a way to gain publicity. In today’s world of “me, me, me” it’s refreshing.

He’s simply a good man who knows how to play football. Thank goodness Seattle is his football home.

The Seattle Seahawks have been labeled by many writers and NFL fans as loud, cocky, obnoxious and overrated. They do play with a bunch of swagger, as do many great players. They are confident, as are many great teams. Off the field, however, there’s a lot of giving to their old neighborhood, to the less fortunate and to organizations they believe in. There is a real sense of giving back and it begins with Mr. Paul Allen.

To the national media, go ahead and hate this team. The Seahawks are loved all over North America and beyond. The players have a great affection towards the 12th Man contingency. They’ll be fine without your support.

Go Hawks!
