Too many Seahawks hecklers are stuck in 1980
It goes without saying that true Seahawks fans are smart and creative. Detractors of our beloved team…..not so much.
Do these derogatory terms regarding the Seahawks sound familiar?
- Seattle Seachickens
- Seattle Yawnhawks
- Seattle Cheesehawks
- Seattle Weehawks
- Seattle Seaslugs
- Seattle Seafrauds
- Sea-Adderall Seahawks (this one is actually pretty funny)

Aside from #7, each term has been around since the early 80s. Comment sections on ESPN and others are filled with these old names. Of course the name calling isn’t as frustrating as the complete disregard to grammar, but it’s close (seriously, it’s not difficult to figure out which your, there and here to use guy wearing the Packers hat).
To be fair, many comments are well written and to the point. Unfortunately some of those are missed because of the racial, religious, or political rants some folks add, that have nothing to do with the topic. Goodness gracious.
So far we have covered two very important lessons about posting comments:
- Grammar basics is a class to take at your local community college. There must be a few in the San Francisco area.
- Comment sections about the Seahawks are not the proper forum to discuss how you would defeat ISIS.
The next topic we must address is the complete lack of creativity. To give you an idea of how bad this issue is, I’d compare the lame comments to Mike McCarthy’s play calling from the 6″ line.
Too soon?
It’s important at this point to retire the term Seachickens. 35-years is long enough for a humorless name. I suggest using Seatitles, for their back to back NFC Conference Championships. Or maybe the Seattle Cantbestoppedhawks. I’m just throwing out some ideas.
The other name I’ve heard for many years is Seaslugs. This is simply inaccurate. Even Paul Allen can outrun a slug. However, if that’s the name that makes you giggle, go ahead and use it. Especially if you’re a 49er fan. You’ve lost enough this off season.
Fans who are trying to find the perfect negative nickname for a rival team, do some research. If you find one you like, but it was used while Wham! was popular, keep looking.
Better yet, be original. You never know what could happen.
Go Hawks!
