FINAL TAKE:
7 of the 8 draft picks make the squad, with Mebane as the only real notable veteran departure. We’ve heard a lot of “most talented roster in the league” the last 2 years, and this one might even be the most athletic from top to bottom than those two. There are risks taking on all this youth, but it’s part of the overall vision of roster construction and salary cap management. Much of the focus during camp will be on the offense line, and Tom Cable has an important task the next 4 months. If he can get the young lineman to acclimate quickly, and if Lewis and Bailey are effective as starters, the Hawks have set themselves up for long-term stability up front with this draft.
On defense, the line rotation should be fun to watch, and Smith is an exciting prospect at CB. But the biggest change on this club comes in the return game. The sheer ability of Lockett, along with depth provided by Blackmon and Murphy, could impact games in a big way.
