Monday Morning Seahawks Links: Rookie Camp Finishes, WR Kasen Williams Shines

Here are your Monday morning Seahawks links.

It’s the offseason and with the draft behind us, new information is going to be getting pretty hard to come by for every team.

All we have to really focus on are the new draft picks, with Seattle obviously having to deal with the fallout from drafting Frank Clark, that’s been the majority of the Seahawks news the past few days.

Luckily another draft pick, Tyler Lockett has been providing us with some positive news thus far.

Final impressions of Seahawks’ rookie mini-camp on Kasen Williams, QBs, the O-line, Lockett and more

The Seahawks wrapped up their three-day rookie mini-camp today.

Here are three impressions from beat writers Bob Condotta and Jayson Jenks.

First, from Condotta

1. Kasen Williams left a lasting impression: Coach Pete Carroll said after Sunday’s workout that the team hopes to sign the former Husky and Skyline High receiver to a free agent deal after he participated here as a tryout player. I wrote about Williams for the Sunday paper (you can find that story below) and Carroll talked about him following Sunday’s workout. “He looked very good,” Carroll said. “We’ve known him for a long time through the recruiting process and our expectations are that he is a really accomplished receiver. Great athlete getting off the ground and all and he showed all of that . He looked like he fit. So we’ll try to get him back.’’ Seattle has an obvious spot on the 90-man for a receiver after Austin Hill — who as signed as an undrafted free agent — did not pass his physical. So it won’t be a surprise to hear in the next day or so that the team has signed Williams to the 90-man roster.

New documents make things even worse for the Seahawks, Frank Clark

Via Geoff Baker and Lewis Kamb of the Seattle Times, there’s more. In a separate document generated the day after the incident at a Sandusky, Ohio hotel, the manager of the hotel told police that Clark both threatened and physically contacted her.

Stephanie Burkhardt told authorities, “I will hit you like I hit her.”  According to Burkhardt, Clark then “shouldered her out of the way.”

Burkhardt reiterated her version of the events via phone to the Times.

“Yes, he said it,” Burkhardt said. “I would never lie about something like that.”

At the time, police gave Burkhardt the option to press charges against Clark, but she declined.  However, prosecutors never contacted Burkhardt.

“I don’t know why they didn’t even question me about it,” Burkhardt said regarding the prosecutor’s office. “He straight up admitted to hitting her, and they didn’t do anything about it.”

Four surprises from Seahawks rookie minicamp

WR Kasen Williams: Failing his physical in Cincinnati, where he was signed as an undrafted free agent, may be the best thing that could have happened to the former Washington receiver. The Seahawks brought him in for a tryout and loved what he did over the three days of practice. “He looked very good,” Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said of Williams. “We’ve known him a long time. He’s a really accomplished receiver and a great athlete. He looked like he fit and we’re going to try to get him back.”

Seahawks reset 2015: Negotiating controversy, price of success

Controversy continues to follow the Seattle Seahawks from that final, fateful offensive play in the Super Bowl through the draft and beyond as the team tries to takes steps to maintain a quality roster in 2015.

Biggest step in that direction was the acquisition of outstanding tight end Jimmy Graham in a trade that sent center Max Unger and a first-round draft pick to the New Orleans Saints.

Although losing Unger is significant, quarterback Russell Wilson certainly should benefit with Graham as a huge target.

Russell Wilson Isn’t Worth Elite QB Contract for Seahawks

Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks are facing a crossroads in what has been a fruitful marriage for both sides since Wilson was drafted in 2012. It seems every starting quarterback seeking a second contract automatically receives a deal in excess of $100 million total value, even if it isn’t warranted.

Nothing about Wilson suggests he doesn’t deserve to be the next quarterback with that kind of extension. He’s turned into a superstar, the face of a franchise that’s made the playoffs each season he’s been under center, winning one Super Bowl and appearing in another.
