Did Seattle Seahawks Paul Richardson Suffer A Setback?

This cryptic Tweet from 2nd year Seahawks WR Paul Richardson sent moderate shockwaves through Seahawk Country yesterday.

That set off rampant speculation that P-Rich had suffered a setback in his recovery from the ACL injury he suffered in the playoff win over Carolina January 10th.

After a slow start, Richardson really came on down the stretch, catching 15 passes and a TD over the last 4 regular season games.  He was beginning to look like the kind of all-around, polished, impact WR the Seahawks envisioned when they selected him in the 2nd round of the 2014 Draft.

But then the left knee popped on a long pass attempt in the playoff game, and suddenly his 2015 season was in jeopardy. ACL tears aren’t the career-threatener they used to be, but Richardson tore the same one at Colorado in 2012, and there are reports that he had a procedure on his right knee at the same time of this most recent procedure.

General consensus is that he likely would have to start the season on the Physically Unable To Perform list, ruling him out of at least the first 6 games, but that tweet makes it sound like it might take longer than that.

How does this impact the Seahawk receiving corps?  With a healthy Richardson, as well as newcomer Tyler Lockett, the Hawks would have two extremely fast, playmaking types to supplement the steady Doug Baldwin and taller possesion types Kevin Norwood, Jermaine Kearse, and possibly Chris Matthews or Douglas McNeil.  When Richardson is ready, this WR group starts to look pretty formidable.

Fortunately there is that depth, and Richardson’s continued absence could provide an opportunity for UDFA Kasen Williams, the former UW star who the Seahawks are looking to sign after an impressive showing at last weekend’s rookie minicamp.

But, then again, maybe Richardson WILL be ready after a 6 week stint on the PUP list. Five hours after the Tweet that shook everyone up, he sent this….

Awwww the wonder of Twitter.  Maybe we’ll see P-Rich running past DB’s on the field sooner rather than later after all.
