At Spokane’s Hoopfest 2015, Bruce Irvin Embraces 12s

My 15 year old son has a team playing in this weekend’s Hoopfest in Spokane. As the world’s largest 3 on 3 tournament, ESPN will be broadcasting the Hoopfest finals on Sunday. Although my son would love to be apart of that, he feels he already had a great experience between games.

Bruce Irvin, the dynamic linebacker for the Seattle Seahawks, was a spectator and photographer. In one image he took you can see Irvin taking the picture while a large group stands around him. A Seahawks star taking time for his loyal eastern Washington 12s. Quite a selfie it is.

As fans we often get caught up in a player’s contract discussions with team officials. The player is thought of as a prima donna, already making millions. In this case we have a player (Irvin) allegedly wanting a trade to Atlanta to play for his old Seattle defensive coach, Dan Quinn. On social media 12s were less than pleased as Irvin downplayed the story. Maybe 12s, he really isnt a selfish player.

Bruce Irvin’s true colors were on display Saturday, chatting with fans and being quite humble. So maybe Irvin was emotional seeing Quinn leave, speaking at an inopportune time. Isn’t it possible Irvin wasn’t thrilled seeing Ken Norton, Jr leave for Oakland? Players and coaches can become very close. Bruce Irvin lost two rather quickly. If nothing else that scenario seems plausable. Seeing this man embrace Seattle fans in Spokane makes it seem even more.

As a fan of both the Seahawks and Bruce Irvin I saw something special that deserves publicity. Clearly Irvin loves the 12s and his current team. To think this star will play for Seattle forever is naive. My hope is we will have him throughout this unprecedented run in Seahawks history. Along the way making the day of more 15 year old kids.
