Seattle Seahawks vs Denver Broncos: 5 takeaways from Seattle’s loss
By Keith Myers
The Seattle Seahawks hosted the Denver Broncos on Friday for a sloppy and ugly preseason game. It was a game that saw seven fumbles and far fewer big plays. Basically, it was preseason football at its worst.
The 22-20 final score is a meaningless result, but there was a lot to be learned about both teams. The Seahawks learned that their offense is still a major work in progress. They also learned that missing three of five starters in the defense secondary isn’t ideal (Ummm… duh?)
Here are my five biggest takeaways from Friday’s loss:
The offensive line is a disaster
Actually, that header is probably unfair to disasters. Britt got eaten alive. Sweezy got pushed back into backfield with regularity. Alvin Bailey and Lemuel Jean-Pierre both looked completely overmatched.
It was an absolute mess.
The second line wasn’t much better. Poor pass blocking was a common theme throughout the entire game.
It wasn’t all bad though. Drew Nowak looked great down the stretch at center. Granted it was against backups, but that he was able to constantly open holes in the running game is a good sign.
Terry Poole, who’d dropped below Jesse Davis on the depth chart, came in and provided a nice upgrade to the line at RT when he entered the game.
Overall, finding positives about this unit wasn’t an easy task. They played poorly, and there is no reason to deny that obvious fact.
