Seattle Seahawks injury report: Earl Thomas, Richard Sherman return to the field
By Keith Myers
The Seattle Seahawks are midway through their final week of training camp, and they got a couple of very important pieces on their defense back onto the field today. Seahawks fans can rest a bit easier now knowing that a pair of their stars have returned.
Richard Sherman returned to practice after missing three practices and the game against Denver. He had a minor hip flexor strain. Sherman was limited in team drills, but was a full participant in the rest of practice.
Earl Thomas was in pads and participating for the first time since being taken on the PUP list last week. He wore a red non-contract jersey like a QB, and thus was limited in what he could do. Thomas was obviously happy to be out there.
Thomas remains at lest two weeks away from being able to play in a game. The current plan is for him to be ready for the season opener. As long as he doesn’t have any setbacks, he should be out there to start the season.
Cornerback Tharold Simon has been in pads and practicing this week as well. Like Sherman, he’s been limited during the team portion of practice. Simon looks like he could be ready to play by the third preseason game.
Nickel corner Will Blackmon is still out with a groin strain. He hasn’t played since last Wednesday, and it appears that he’s going to miss this week’s game again Kansas City as well.
Cornerbacks Mohammed Seisay and Douglas McNeil both sat out again today. There is also still no sign of Kam Chancellor, whose holdout is almost three weeks long now.
Elsewhere on the defense, rookie defensive end Frank Clark sat out today. He’s been nursing a sore ankle for over a week. He played on it, and played very well, against Denver last week.
Linebackers Kevin Pierre-Lewis and Brock Coyle were both back on the field and full participants today. Both missed last week’s game with minor ailments, but were full participants today and appear ready to play this week.
There are a few offensive player on the injury report today as well.
Backup QB Tarvaris Jackson remains out with an ankle sprain. He is expected to be out at least two weeks, and should be back in time for the season opener. In the mean time, the Seahawks have signed QB Jake Waters to help with the extra reps in practice.
Wide receiver Chris Matthews has a sprained AC joint in his shoulder. Pete Carroll said that Matthews is expected to miss only 10 days.
Fullbacks Derrick Coleman and Will Tukuafu are both back practicing. Both missed last week’s game giving all of the reps to Brandon Cottom. Both are expected to play this week.
