Arizona Cardinals: Scouting Report from preseason Week 1
By Alexis Bravo
Right from the get-go, it became increasingly obvious that the Cardinal’s offensive line is much improved—especially in pass protection. While watching the game, it seemed like the Kansas City Chiefs were incapable of getting any real pressure on any of the quarterbacks under center for the Cardinals until real late in the game, when the Cardinals just put whoever seemed fresh out there.
And keep in mind, the Chiefs pass rush is no joke.
Carson Palmer had what seemed like days to make a decision on where to place the ball and who to hit with it, which was displayed in Carson’s perfect (and only) series going 4-4, for 77 yards.
(Yes, I know the stat line doesn’t seem like much, but watching the game made it clear: he had plenty of time to make a choice if more time was needed.)
That ultimately brought a little fear to me, as last year our pass rush was a shell of its former 2013 self, and while a myriad of injuries derailed our pass rush even more, there was still a drop off that was clear (at least to me) in the very first game of the season last year against the Packers.
With this improved line, I believe it’ll become increasingly harder to get pressure on Palmer, and we all know if Palmer has enough time in the pocket, he can pick apart any defense.
Rookie right tackle D. J. Humphries (their first round pick) also looked promising. Looked decent when he got his opportunity to play.
(Here’s to Frank Clark playing like the player we saw against the Broncos consistently and Jordan Hill continues where he left off last year)
