Arizona Cardinals: Scouting Report from preseason Week 1

The Cardinals passing attack looks absolutely deadly – especially when the number ones are running it. The Cardinals have a plethora of receiving options ranging from the old man Fitz, Speedster John Brown, Michael Floyd (inactive – just had surgery on his hand after dislocating/breaking 4 of his fingers), Andre Ellington, and many more.

Like take this play for example:

It’s just a simple streak (nine, go, whatever name you know it as) route from the backfield, and while in decent coverage, Ellington is able to make the catch and break loose for a huge chunk of yardage. This team is extremely explosive, and now that Ellington is healthy the offense can take the next step into top ten offense status.

There’s also a little bit of hype from rookie wide receiver J.J. Nelson, a speedster from UAB. Carson Palmer had several words of phrase about him when a sideline reporter asked if we should be looking out for someone new.

He said Nelson has improved quite a bit since his struggles during OTAs, and that “he’s waiting for him to have bad day” but that just hasn’t happened. With the addition of Nelson, the Cardinals add yet another downfield threat; however, I don’t expect him to make an immediate impact. I see him making a difference down the road – around week 6, 7. However, if anyone were to get hurt, he will certainly capable of contributing earlier if need be.

The offense will be primed to be efficient and have several explosive plays down the road if they continue to look the way they do when the starters are in.
