Coaching Staff – Stock Down
Pete Carroll is the head coach, and thus he takes much of the blame for the opening week loss. In my opinion, Carroll did a solid job keeping everyone motivated during the first four quarters. However, he made the biggest blunder of the game in the extra period. Going with the onside kick to start overtime was a poor decision. The Rams moved the ball consistently on the Seahawks’ vaunted defense, and Carroll should not have placed so much faith in them.
Speaking of the defense, Kris Richard looked completely overmatched on Sunday. The Seahawks’ rookie defensive coordinator had no answers for the Rams’ tricky offense. St. Louis compiled 352 net yards of offense. Richard looked bad during the Rams’ final drive, and he did not make the necessary adjustments in overtime. Hopefully, he can regroup and get his players ready to face the Green Bay Packers’ high flying offense.
I thought Darrell Bevell did the worst job of the bunch. The Seahawks’ offensive coordinator came up with an uninspiring game plan, and failed to get his most dangerous targets involved. Russell Wilson threw the ball 41 times, and yet Jimmy Graham caught just 6 passes. Marshawn Lynch moved the ball effectively on the ground, but Bevell under-utilized him. The decision to run the ball out of the shotgun on the final play was a poor one. Seattle had run the same play numerous times in similar spots, and they would have been better off going to the I-formation.
