Seahawks at Packers: Inactives Analysis

The Seattle Seahawks are at Lambeau Field to take on the Green Bay Packers tonight on Sunday Night Football. The game is about 90 minutes away, and that means that the teams are finally announcing which players will not be active for tonight’s game.

NFL rosters have 53 players, but only 46 are allowed to dress and play in each game. That means that seven player must be declared inactive each week.

Seahawks Inactives

Not many surprises here, as this list is largely the same as last week. The one change is Tye Smith inactive with Tharold Simon ready to go.

Simon is active with despite a toe injury suffered in practice before Week 1’s game. The Seahawks will be happy to have had him back to help defense Green Bay’s passing attack. DeShawn Shead and Marcus Burley will get less snaps as a result.

Gary Gilliam is active and will start. He was listed as questionable on Friday. He will be worth watching in this one. We might see Alvin Bailey at RT if Gilliam cannot keep up with Green Bay’s pass rushers.

Bruce Irvin was the other Seattle player listed as questionable this week. He’s also active and expected to start. The Seahawks will likely rotate him out more than normal this week. Kevin Pierre-Louis will play on the week side when that happens, with K.J. Wright moving to the strong side.

Packers Inactives

The big news here is Brian Bulaga being inactive. That was expected after Friday’s surgery, but it still hurts for Green Bay. Dan Barclay gets the start and will be the one who draws the job of trying to block Michael Bennett.
