Seahawks vs Bears: Hawks big favorites in Vegas

After beginning the season 0-2 it appears the Seahawks have found the perfect soft landing to try and get their season back on track, and the Vegas oddsmakers agree. The Seahawks are favored by 14.5 points at home against the Chicago Bears. Kickoff is set for 1:25pm PST Sunday at CenturyLink Field in Seattle.

Certainly, the Seahawks would have been favored in this game even if the Bears were at full strength, but news that starting QB Jay Cutler won’t play due to a strained hamstring makes this game look like more of a mismatch. As bad as you might think Cutler is, Clausen has been worse.

Couple that with the fact that the Seahawks consistently got pressure on a much better Packer offensive line on Sunday and you can see why Vegas looks for Seattle to bounce back.

Double digit point spreads are rare in the NFL, and the Seahawks line over the Bears is the largest initial line of the week. The Patriots are close, favored to beat Jacksonville by 13.5 at home.

The Seahawks and Bears have met 16 times, including twice in the playoffs. The Seahawks have won 10. The last time these two teams played is considered by many to be the breakout game for then-rookie QB Russell Wilson, as he led two longs drives late in the game. The first one forced OT, and the second one won it 23-17. The 2010 game, a 23-20 win at Soldier Field, was also a turning point for the current regime. It marked Marshawn Lynch’s Seahawk debut after being acquired in a trade with Buffalo. Lynch only gained 44 rushing yards that day, but he did score a TD, and the ferocity with which he ran the football signaled an immediate change in culture that would go on to shape the Seahawks.

This will mark the first time the Bears have played in Seattle since 2009, when a late touchdown pass to Devin Hester sealed a 25-19 win for Chicago. That game was also memorable for being the first, and only, time that the Seahawks wore their bright lime green alternate jerseys.

Early weather report for Sunday calls for sunny skies and a high of 66 degrees.
