Stock Down – J.R. Sweezy and K.J. Wright

Ridiculous penalties proved very costly for the Seattle Seahawks this weekend. The Hawks had 6 penalties as a team for 92 yards. Obviously, making that many mistakes will not cut it against a team like the Green Bay Packers. A pair of penalties in particular were embarrassing for the Seahawks and their fans.

J.R. Sweezy is quickly becoming one of the better guards in the NFL, but his temper hurt the Hawks this week. The Seahawks had a first down on the Packers’ 39 yard line trailing by 7 points in the second quarter. Following a Marshawn Lynch run, Sweezy knocked his man to the ground and proceeded to dive on top of him. This earned him an unnecessary roughness penalty, and pushed Seattle back 15 yards. The drive stalled, and the Seahawks were forced to punt.

K.J. Wright was ejected from the contest in the final quarter, and deservingly so. The veteran linebacker drove Richard Rodgers into the turf, yanking violently on his face mask. Wright nearly ripped Rodgers’ helmet off his head. Wright’s selfishness helped spark the Packers on what turned out to be a key drive. Green Bay kicked a field goal a few minutes later to take a 27-17 lead.  Wright is a captain on this team, and he should be ashamed of what he did.
