The best play from the Seahawks and Bears game

The best play from the Seahawks and Bears game this week is tough to call. For the first time this season I found myself wrestling with multiple plays by the Seahawks that were definitely eligible. Once I got my head around the game, it came down to two things a great defense and an emerging offense (and amazing special teams).

The game opened a bit more slowly than I expected. I was standing in the Hawks Nest looking at the scoreboard at the end of the first quarter, 0-3 Seahawks. Although it was great to see the Seahawks on top it wasn’t the type of effort I was expecting against a Jimmy Clausen lead Bears team.

In the second quarter the Seahawks got the ball back with 2:47 on the clock. Next thing you know the Seahawks start to drive down the field from their own twenty yard line to the Bears’ 26 yard line where an injured Marshawn Lynch got stopped on third and one.

Fourth down and one yard to go, Seahawks were winning 3-0 and were definitely within Steven Hauschka’s range. However the Seahawks got aggressive, with a lead at home in the midst of a long drive they wanted to continue marching toward the end zone.

Darrell Bevel reached into the depths of the playbook and found a gem, making this the best play from the Seahawks and Bears game. The Hawks lined up in a Tight I formation, two wide receivers right and one to the left. Baldwin was lined up as the running back on the play and Lynch was lined up as the Fullback.

Lynch motioned up towards the line where he stopped two yards behind the left tackle. Wilson snapped the ball under center and threw a beautifully thrown ball to Lynch. The ball had the perfect amount of touch to allow Lynch to make an incredible grab. After two bobbles Lynch reeled the ball in and was later forced out of bounds after a nine yard gain. The Seahawks moved the ball on the drive to the three yard line where they were eventually forced to kick a Steven Hauschka field goal.

Although this play didn’t end up ion a touchdown, I believe it shows a shift in the momentum of the game. By going for it on fourth down the Seahawks got a vote of confidence from the coaching staff and the 12s.

This spurred the Seahawks on to an amazing 26-0 shut out of the Bears, their first shut out since December 15, 2013 when the Seahawks beat the Giants in New Jersey. This play shows the innovation that the Seahawks have in their offense and how impressive they can be when they open up the play book.

Look for a great game next week on Monday night as the Seahawks take on the Lions. Don’t let the Lions record fool you, they are still a very dangerous team. The Seahawks will need all the 12s out in full force.
