Seahawks vs. Lions: inactive lists and analysis
By Keith Myers
The Seattle Seahawks play host to the Detroit Lions at CenturyLink field tonight on Monday Night Football. We’re about 90 minutes away from kickoff, so that means that it is time for the inactive players from both teams to be announced.
Please remember that while rosters contain 53 players, only 46 are eligible to play each week. Seven players must be declared inactive prior to each game. Many of the inactive players each week are players who are injured.
Seahawks Inactives
While none of these names are a big surprise, that doesn’t mean there aren’t some big names on that list. The Seahawks will be without the engine of the offense with Marshawn Lynch dealing with a Hamstring injury. Thomas Rawls will get most of the carries in his place.
Nose tackle Brandon Mebane is also out after suffering a groin injury last week. Jordan Hill will start in his place. The loss of Mebane is major blow to Seattle’s run defense, but that likely won’t matter much with the pass-happy Lions coming to town.
For the second week in a row, Bruce Irvin was listed as questionable, but will play.
Lions Inactives
The Lions will be without starting OG Larry Warford. In his place rookie Laken Tomlinson will get the start. Tomlinson is a powerful straight ahead run blocker, but he lacks lateral movement skills. He’ll be fine as a run blocker, but a major liability in pass protection.
The other major name on this list is starting RB Joique Bell. Bell’s injury will mean that the Lions will finally have to give the majority of carries to rookie Ameer Abdullah. There are many who believe that this will actually be a serious improvement.
