The moral of this story may just be to always take what TMZ reports with a grain of salt.
When Seattle Seahawks running back Fred Jackson rammed his car into a sign pole this afternoon, tmz.com reported that witnesses saw Jackson drag racing with Marshawn Lynch just outside the Seahawks practice facility, and that caused the crash.

Here is what the accident scene looked like.
Jackson reportedly did not sustain any injuries, but if indeed that had been the cause of the crash, it would have had potentially massive implications for Lynch and the Seahawks. In fact, I spelled out the potential impact of this scenario in my initial story after the accident became public knowledge.
Now, it appears, that there may have been no racing involved, and that this was simply an unfortunate one car accident.
I’m curious to know what was going through the mind of the “witnesses” who were on the scene if indeed LaCanfora’s reports are accurate. As a writer, one with a journalism degree and a professional reporting background, I can understand how easy it is to rush to judgement in this age of who-can-post-it-first, and in fact that may be the case here.
But as a Seahawk fan, I’m ecstatic that this may all end up being much ado about nothing.
Still….. stay tuned.
