Stock Down: Kris Richard

Last week, Seattle led the Cincinnati Bengals by 17 points with a little more than 12 minutes left in the game. The Bengals charged back to tie the game in regulation before winning in overtime. This week, the Hawks led the Panthers by 9 points with 4 minutes remaining. We know what happened next.

Greg Olsen’s touchdown was a perfect example of the dysfunction the players are dealing with in Kris Richard. Olsen ran right past Earl Thomas and Richard Sherman for an easy touchdown. It was revealed by ESPN on Monday that a late call from the Seahawks’ sideline changed the coverage from cover-3 to cover-2. Sherman saw the sign, but the majority of the defenders, including Thomas, missed the signal. Given the situation, this miscue in communication was simply not acceptable.

The time has come for Pete Carroll to take over the defensive play calling. Kris Richard is a disaster, and his dismal performance is a big reason why the Seahawks are facing long odds to grace the postseason.
