Seahawks vs. 49ers; Vegas line, forecast and history

November 8, 2015; Santa Clara, CA, USA; San Francisco 49ers quarterback Blaine Gabbert (2) hands the football off to running back Pierre Thomas (32) against the Atlanta Falcons during the second quarter at Levi

Given how poorly the Seattle Seahawks have played recently, how do you think the San Francisco 49ers feel? Despite benching their heretofore star QB and dealing with talk of major changes in the off season, they come into CenturyLink Field this Sunday just a game behind the Hawks in the standings, yet the consensus Vegas line has them sitting as 12 point underdogs.

The fact Blaine Gabbert will be their starting QB surely factors into those odds, as does the recent history between these two teams. Seattle has won six of the last seven games in the series, and San Fran hasn’t come out on top in Seattle since Christmas Eve 2011, when their signal caller was still Alex Smith. Overall, the Seahawks hold the edge in the all-time series, winning 19 out of 33.

The weather forecast calls for possible light rain, with wind likely not playing a factor in the conditions. Temperature at game time will be in the mid to upper 40’s.

There’s much at stake for both teams if they’re to have any remaining aspirations of making the playoffs as a wild card team. Playoffstatus.com lists the Seahawks chances of making the playoffs at 23%, while the 49ers sit at just 4%.

This will be Gabbert’s second start for San Francisco since he took over at QB for the demoted Colin Kaepernick. Gabbert has never faced the Seahawks.

On the injury front, we’re still waiting to hear the official status of WR Paul Richardson (hamstring) and OLB Bruce Irvin (knee). Coach Pete Carroll didn’t sound very positive about either one during his media availabilities yesterday. The biggest question mark for the 49ers is the status of running back Carlos Hyde, who’s missed the last few games with a foot injury that’s hampered him most the season.

Kickoff time at CenturyLink Field is set for 1:25pm PST. The game will be televised on the FOX network.
