Marshawn Lynch update: Surgery scheduled for Wednesday

facebooktwitterreddit

According to a report, Marshawn Lynch is scheduled for surgery tomorrow. This report conflicts with what was reported earlier today.

Earlier today, the reports were that Marshawn Lynch had decided to forgo surgery on his injured abdominal muscle. He was hoping to heal up and be back on the field sooner, rather than later.

Now it is being reported that Lynch will have the surgery on Wednesday.

This report is a complete about-face from the story that was presented less than three hours prior. The first story came from ESPN’s Adam Schefter. This one from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Both are extremely reputable sources, which seems to indicate that the plan for Lynch has genuinely changed in the last few hours.

It would be easy to speculate that Lynch decided on the “wait and see” approach, only to later be talked into surgery. Unless someone like Pete Carroll comes out and tells us that is what happened, we’ll likely never know.

Tough to imagine that Carroll would want to go into the playoff without his star running back though. If Pete had a say in this, he likely would have voted for Lynch to have the surgery. The guarantee of Lynch’s return would be nice to have.

Rapoport’s recovery time of “about a month” is extremely optimistic. 6-8 weeks is typical. Lynch isn’t all that young. There’s no reason to expect that he’s going to heal super fast in this case.

Luckily, all our questions will be answered on Wednesday. Pete Carroll is set to address the media just after noon. You can bet that he will be asked plenty of questions about Lynch’s status at that time.
