For a minute there it looked like the Redskins were going to make a playoff run, and Gruden’s tenuous job security would be safe for now. But whenever you’re talking about Redskins owner Daniel Snyder, the head coach is always on shaky ground. Gruden was highly respected for the work he did as OC in Cincinnati from 2011-13, and has done a remarkable job developing Kirk Cousins in Washington. He would jump to the front of the line as OC-most-in-demand should he be fired in Washington.
The Redskins are currently 5-6 and leading the ultra-weak NFC East heading into their matchup against Dallas this week. If they fade down the stretch and miss the playoffs, Gruden could become available.
