CARL SMITH – Seahawks QB coach

This would seem to be a very logical transition. The QB coaching ranks are where future OC’s typically come from, and Smith has been with the Seahawks since 2011. He might be underrated as a contributor to the remarkable development of Russell Wilson, and get this, he has over 12 years as an offensive coordinator in the NFL! He’s also known and worked with Pete Carroll going all the way back to their days in New England together (1997-99), and was also on his staff for a short time at USC.

So what might keep Smith from being a strong candidate? Well, he’s 67 years old. Even as loyal as he is to his assistants, Carroll has shown a preference for younger OC’s. If Smith were to get the nod, it may give us a hint about Carroll’s long-term plans in Seattle.
