The Seahawks can clinch a playoff berth this week, if everything goes their way.

It’s that time of year. That time when the real stars of the NFL aren’t the golden-armed QB’s or the stud pass rushers.

Nope, it’s the time of year when the math geeks are the ones who shine.

NFL.com released their playoff scenarios, and hard as it may be to believe when you consider where they were just six weeks ago, the Seahawks can clinch a playoff berth this Sunday.

More from 12th Man Rising

Here are the five ways the Seahawks can clinch a playoff spot this week:

1) SEA win + TB loss or tie + NYG loss or tie OR

2) SEA win + TB loss or tie + WAS loss or tie OR

3) SEA win + TB loss or tie + ATL loss or tie + MIN loss + GB win or tie OR

4) SEA tie + TB loss + ATL loss or tie + NYG loss OR

5) SEA tie + TB loss + ATL loss or tie + WAS loss + PHI loss or tie

Seem implausible? Perhaps, but the rest of the league has seemingly been out to help the Hawks the last few weeks. Every time it seems like a certain team needs to lose to help our cause, they do. For context, here are the matchups for the teams involved:

  • Tampa Bay plays at St. Louis
  • Atlanta plays at Jacksonville
  • The NY Giants host Carolina
  • Washington hosts Buffalo

Seem a little more possible now? Despite the Rams struggles of late, they are typically tough to play in St. Louis. Right now the Rams are a 1.5 favorite. The Jaguars have scored 90 points in their last two games and have to be licking their chops as they study the Falcons struggling defense. Jacksonville is currently a 3 point favorite. Elsewhere, Carolina is a 5 point favorite over the Giants as they look to stay undefeated, and Buffalo is favored by 1 point over the Redskins.

And in case you were curious, the Seahawks sit as a 14.5 point favorite over Cleveland at the moment.

So, according to the Vegas oddsmakers, if everything goes according to plan this weekend, the Seahawks will have clinched a playoff berth with two weeks left to play.

Who would have though this was possible just a few short weeks ago?
