Pick #28: Kansas City Chiefs – Taylor Decker, OT, Ohio State

One of Spence’s ex Ohio State teammates shows up one pick later. Decker is a massive tackle capable of playing the right or left side. He started 42 straight games for the Buckeyes, the last 28 at left tackle, but with 2013 #1 overall pick Eric Fisher in the fold, Taylor would be ticketed for right tackle in Kansas City, giving the Chiefs a pair of big, young bookend tackles.

Decker measures 6’7″ and 315 pounds. For a tackle his height he shows good knee bend and solid technique. With all his experience playing LT in the Big 10 he’s capable of matching up well with quality outside rushers in pass protection. In the run game he moves well for his size and plays with a mean streak, getting to the second level well and driving defenders into the turf.

He may not possess the highest ceiling, what you see is what you get from Decker. But what you get is a talented, experienced young tackle with the attitude and makeup to step in and start from day #1. The Chiefs need help on their offensive line. It’s a good match.
