Pick #2: Cleveland Browns – Jared Goff, QB, California

There’s no question now that the Browns need a young quarterback to build around (stop me if you’ve heard this before). Johnny Manziel looks more each day like he may have partied himself right out of the NFL, and the team has already made it clear his days as a Brown are already over. With offensive mind Hugh Jackson taking over as the new head coach, he’ll have the task of choosing the next Great Brown Hope.

Carson Wentz has been steering the hype train recently, but look for Jackson to go with the more experienced (at least at a higher level of competition than Wentz) and polished Goff to run his West Coast-style offense. Goff threw for 4,719 yards and 43 TD’s for the Golden Bears as a junior before declaring early for the draft. He has prototype size at 6’4″ 210 lbs, a strong arm, and can make all the throws. He has a tendency to try and power every throw, but Jackson may be the perfect tutor to help him develop more touch and feel as a passer.

And this would be the ideal situation for Goff, without the pressure to play right away that typically comes along with being a highly drafted QB. Josh McCown is under contract for another year in Cleveland and would be the ideal place-holder for Goff.
