Pick #3: San Diego Chargers – Joey Bosa, DE, Ohio State

The perhaps-soon-to-be Los Angeles Chargers need help on defense, particularly up front. Bosa is the best defensive player on the board and might be the best player in the draft overall. At 6’5″ 275 lbs he’s an athletic freak, and he’s always been able to translate that talent into production for the Buckeyes. With 26 sacks and 51 tackles for loss in 3 years at OSU, Bosa uses an elite get off and brute strength to dominate opposing offensive lineman.

If anything, he can be too aggressive and will sometimes overrun a play or miss an assignment. He relies too much on athletic ability at times and needs to refine his technique. But make no mistake about it, Bosa is tailor made to be an NFL defensive end.

He’s equally adept at stuffing the run or getting to the quarterback, and he has the kind of work ethic coaches rave about. Bosa will be an impact player in the NFL from the first minute he puts on a Charger helmet, wherever that may be.
