NFL First Round Mock Draft, Seahawks get defensive
By Dan Viens
Pick #8: Miami Dolphins – Ronnie Stanley, OT, Notre Dame
But doesn’t Miami have a left tackle already?
Branden Albert is fine, but how has “fine” worked out for the Dolphins in the AFC East? New head coach Adam Gase is certainly looking to overhaul an offense that never lived up to expectations under Joe Philbin. If Gase is going to get the most out of Ryan Tannehill, he needs to protect him and continue to surround him with weapons. With Treadwell off the board, upgrading the LT position for years to come would be wise.
Stanley has immense physical gifts. At 6’6″ 315 lbs he looks the part, and he has long arms, nimble feet and agility to eventually be able to handle all comers off the edge. Stanley’s problem is he’s young and raw, with a lot of technique left to develop.
But here’s why it works for Miami; Stanley made 13 starts for the Fighting Irish at right tackle in 2013 before moving to the left side full time. Albert can play either tackle or guard position. Taking Stanley here and breaking him on the right side could set the Dolphins up to have a franchise LT in place for years to come.
Ryan Tannehill says thank you.
