Seventh Round

7-4 (~213 overall, from DAL): Kodi Whitfield, S, Stanford

Kodi Whitfield is a former Stanford wide receiver who converted to free safety after the 2013 season. He’s an exceptional athlete with great competiveness and a high football IQ (he’s also the son of Pro Bowl NFL offensive lineman Bob Whitfield).

At 6’2” and 202 pounds, I’m interested to see how his arms measure up at his pro day because I could see him getting drafted as a late round cornerback prospect for Seattle.

7-26 (~235 overall): Mike Thomas, WR, Southern Miss

This guy is my draft crush for this season. He’s currently a 7th round projection that I could see sneaking up some draft boards as the draft nears. He’s got the requisite size (6’1” 200lbs), quickness, and straight line speed to play outside in the NFL. The big knock right now is he’s from a small school with limited time against top-line competition.

I watched his game against the University of Washington this season and came away convinced he can be productive in the NFL. He finished that game with 9 catches for 190 yards and two touchdowns.

Beyond the stat-line, his first quarter touchdown showed soft hands and an incredible burst to top speed in a very short distance. Watch his second quarter over-the-shoulder catch near the goal line and imagine the amazing potential of Thomas running below a Russell Wilson deep ball. Thomas also returned kicks for Southern Miss so he could backup Lockett on special teams.
