Pete Carroll nearing contract extension with Seahawks?
By Dan Viens
Pete Carroll is reportedly in discussions with the Seattle Seahawks to extend his contract beyond the 2016 season.
When Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll was asked about his own contract situation at the NFL Scouting Combine this morning he declined to get into specifics, saying only “I’m doing great.” But according to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rappaport, there’s more going on behind the scenes than Carroll is willing to let on.

There have been questions about Carroll’s long term future in Seattle beyond this coming season. He sold his Seattle-area home last April, less than a year after purchasing it. There have always been rumors that he would be interested in going back home to Los Angeles if the NFL ever returned, and now that’s happened. And then there’s the fact he’s now the oldest coach in the league, and who knows how much longer the 64 year old wants to stay on the sidelines?
With this latest report, it appears Carroll wants to stay beyond 2016 and continue guiding the program he and John Schneider have been building since taking over in 2010. During that time, they have taken one of the worst rosters in the league and transformed it into a Super Bowl champion and perennial contender. With a young core of superstar players still in tact and locked into contracts, it appears Carroll knows the window for winning another title (or more) is still wide open.

If and when this deal is consummated, then the focus turns to Schneider. His contract also runs out after the 2016 season, and it’s well known he had an out clause in this deal that would allow him to leave if the job in Green Bay opened up. But Ted Thompson is firmly entrenched as the GM there and is believed to be signed through the 2018 season.
