JR Sweezy generating tons of interest in free agency

Add JR Sweezy to the list of 2015 starters who are likely gone from the Seattle Seahawks. He is already generating tremendous energy in free agency.

The Seahawks may be loosing yet another starter to free agency. A report out this morning as the so-called “legal tampering” period beings has Seattle Seahawks guard J.R. Sweezy as a popular free agent target.

This might surprise Seahawks fans that are frustrated by Sweezy’s poor pass blocking. Keep in mind though that Sweezy is young, extremely athletic and is still improving. Plus, after watching James Carpenter play very well after leaving Seattle, there is a belief around the league that Seattle’s flaw’d lineman can be fixed.

I’m sure the Seahawks would love to have Sweezy return, but they know they have Mark Glowinski ready to go as well. Seattle spent last season grooming Glow into being a potential starter this season, and he definitely looked ready when he make his one start in Week 17.

Losing Sweezy would set up worst-case scenario for Seattle’s offense. If Okung also leaves, the Seahawks would be trying to replace two starters on the offensive line for the second straight offseason.

They’d also have no linemen left from their Super Bowl win in 2013, and only 1 (at the new position) from their Super Bowl team in 2014. That is way too much turnover at a position group where continuity is essential.

The Seahawks have chosen to spend their money elsewhere on the roster and to continuously stay young on the offensive line. Hopefully they don’t get burned by this plan once again.
