Report: Seahawks re-sign CB Jeremy Lane
By Dan Viens
The Seattle Seahawks have reportedly re-signed free agent corner back Jeremy Lane.
After starting the day by losing three starters to big money free agent deals with other teams, the Seahawks finally notched one in the positive column this evening.
The deal is reportedly for four years.
Lane was drafted by the Seahawks in the 6th round of the 2012 draft out of Northwestern State in Louisiana, and was an unrestricted free agent heading into this off season. He has played in 41 games over his career, starting 3. He finished last season as the starter after missing the first half of the season while recovering from severe injuries to his arm and knee suffered after he intercepted a Tom Brady pass in Super Bowl XLIX. He notched 2 interceptions, six passes defensed and 13 tackles for the year.

Lane stands to get a shot to be the opening day starter at CB opposite Richard Sherman in 2016. The Seahawks signed Cary Williams as a free agent last year, but released him mid-season. Inserting Lane into the lineup at outside corner and moving DeShawn Shead to nickel was a move that paid dividends as the Seattle secondary ended the regular season playing extremely well in 2015. Shead is a restricted free agent himself, as is Marcus Burley. The team will also have holdover corner backs Tharold Simon and Mohammad Siesay coming back from injuries that halted their 2015 season.
The length of the contract, however, would seem to indicate the Seahawks confidence that Lane could be the guy to round out the current edition of the Legion Of Boom, long-term.
The news came as an about face compared to the first few hours of free agency, which saw the Hawks lose 3 starters to other teams. First, OLB Bruce Irvin agreed to terms with the Oakland Raiders, followed quickly by DT Brandon Mebane signing with San Diego and guard J.R. Sweezy defecting to Tampa Bay.

There are reports that the team is still working hard to re-sign left tackle Russell Okung, also an unrestricted free agent.
