Is German Super Sleeper WR on Seahawks radar?
By Dan Viens
An under-the-radar German wunderkind is creating a buzz in advance of the NFL draft. Are the Seahawks interested?
His name is Moritz Boehringer.
When I first heard it, and saw his birds-eye view workout tape last week….. on April 1st….. I was convinced it was an April Fools Day joke. A modern day Sidd Finch. Editor’s note; if you’re too young to know who Sidd Finch is, Google it.
But then a few days went by, and now a week, and the buzz is only growing.
Do an internet search and you’ll see headlines like… “Stuns NFL scouts,” “Has NFL buzzing,” and “Crushes his pro day!”

Organized football is still in it’s infancy in Germany but to date, Boehringer is one of it’s biggest stars. And now, in much the same manner as rugby star Jarryd Hayne last year, he’s ready to try and make the leap across the ocean.
How obscure is this guy? I couldn’t even find an approved image to use for this story in our FanSided data base. Thankfully, he does have a highlight reel on Hudl.
Watch the tape and you see a guy who runs better than expected routes and catches the ball nicely away from his body, and once he gets turned up field he simply runs away from everyone. But……he looks like a grown man playing against the junior high school junior varsity.
Taking part at the Florida Atlantic pro day, you can see by his test numbers why one might originally think this was all a prank:
- Height: 6’4 1/2″
- Weight: 227 lbs
- 40 yard dash: 4.43 seconds
- Vertical jump: 39″
- Broad jump: 10’11”
- Wing Span: 80 inches!!!!!!
Andy Fenelon of NFL.com described scouts reactions as “on the ground doing double-takes at their stopwatches, shaking their heads, and laughing.”
And here’s the thing, he might just be precisely the kind of prospect that could capture the attention of the Seattle Seahawks.
I can find no reports placing any Seahawks scouts at the event, nor are they listed among the teams reportedly lining up visits with the mysterious German star, but we do know how much the Hawks love their unique, explosive athletes, and Boehringer certainly fits that description. (We also know that sometimes when they DON’T have any scouts out to see a certain player, they might actually be MORE interested in said player.)
He would also give Pete Carroll something he has desperately been searching for; a big, dangerous red zone target to play WR.

Actually, some scouts believe Boehringer is so athletically gifted at his size that he could stand to add a few more pounds to his frame and become a pass-catching “move” TE prospect. He did line up at both TE and WR for his team. Either way, he would fit the profile the Hawks typically perk up to take a closer look at.
Whatever the case, don’t forget the name…… Moritz Boehringer. He’ll be a fascinating story to watch, wherever he lands.
