The LA Rams traded up for the No. 1 overall pick in the draft. Seattle’s NFC West rival made a big move to try and get them a QB so they can catch the Seahawks.

The NFL Draft landscape completely changed this morning. The LA Rams traded all the way up from No. 15 overall to the draft’s first pick. It was a move that cost them a king’s ransom, but it will certainly put them in position to get the player they want.

This move is essentially the RG3 trade in reverse for the Rams. Instead of getting a boatload of picks from another team, they’ve given up an equally impressive boatload to the Titans.

Titans receive from Rams:

  • 1st round (No. 15)
  • 2 in 2nd round (No. 43 and No. 45)
  • 3rd round (No. 76)
  • 2 picks next year (1st and 3rd round)

Rams receive from Titans:

  • 1st overall pick
  • 4th round (No. 113)
  • 6th (No. 177)

Make no mistake, the Rams made this trade for one simple reason. They need a QB. While we don’t yet know which one it’ll be, either Carson Wentz or Jared Goff will be the next starting QB in Los Angeles.

We might as well call this what it is. The Rams are desperate to make a splash as they return to the LA market. Running Case Keanum out there at QB wasn’t going to fill seats and get people excited. When the Rams finish with their inevitable 7-9 record, at least they can sell it as there being hope for the future.

Next: Are the Seahawks still considered a top team?

They getting get this QB pick right. If they don’t get a certified franchise QB, this trade will set the Rams back years. This is a huge risk. They’re hoping it’ll be worth a huge reward. We’ll see if they’re right.
