1) Russell Wilson

When Russell Wilson was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2012 NFL Draft, there were many eyebrows raised.  So called draft “experts” criticized the Seahawks’ selection of Wilson after the team had already signed quarterback Matt Flynn.

Fast forward to 2016 and Russell Wilson is one of the top quarterbacks in the entire NFL and is the face of the Seattle Seahawks.  His play has often made opponents look silly, both with his accurate passing and his scrambling ability.  Wilson’s leadership and work ethic are the qualities you dream about having in a franchise quarterback, and the Seahawks found this perfect player still available in the 3rd round.

Finding a franchise quarterback is both the most important and most difficult part of building a successful team.  Schneider and Carroll made excellent selections and moves prior to drafting Wilson, but finding their quarterback was the last piece of the puzzle needed for a Super Bowl championship.

This selection is the best draft pick by John Schneider and Pete Carroll since being in Seattle, and I believe it’s also the best draft selection in franchise history.
