Seattle Seahawks 2016 Mock Draft
By Joshua Smith
A final, final Seattle Seahawks mock draft for 2016, because our last final mock draft wasn’t quite final enough.
Although it is next to impossible to predict what John Schneider, Pete Carroll, and company will do with their 9 picks in this year’s NFL draft, it is nonetheless fun to try. After hearing Schneider rave about the depth of talent in this year’s draft one thing is for certain: The Seahawks will try to trade down and acquire more picks. The hard part is figuring out if they’re going to give up pick number 26 or 56…or both.
Without further ado, here we go. Keep in mind, these are not the players who I want the Seahawks to draft. In fact I hope that I’m dead wrong about a couple.
Round 1, Pick 26 Trade to Cleveland. Seattle receives Cleveland’s 2nd round pick (32 overall), and their second pick in the third round (77 overall).
Round 2, Pick 32 (From Cleveland): Vernon Butler, DT, Louisiana Tech.
Round 2, Pick 56 Trade to Tennessee. Seattle receives Tennessee’s 3rd round pick (64 overall), and their fifth round pick (140 overall).
Round 3, Pick 64 (From Tennessee): Connor McGovern, G, Missouri.
Round 3, Pick 77 (From Cleveland): Daniel Lasco, RB, Cal
Round 3, Pick 90 Joe Haeg, T, South Dakota St.
Round 3, Pick 97 Kevin Hogan, QB, Stanford
Round 4, Pick 124 Deiondre Hall, DB, Northern Iowa
Round 5, Pick 140 (From Tennessee) Travis Feeney, LB, Washington
Round 5, Pick 171 Devon Cajuste, WR, Stanford
Round 6, Pick 215 Joel Heath, DT, Michigan St.
Round 7, Pick 225 Deandre Elliott, CB, Colorado St.
Round 7, Pick 247 Mortiz Boehringer, WR, Germany
So there you have it. If this mock draft ends up resembling what the Seahawks actually decide to do over the next three days then I will be highly disappointed to say the least. Vernon Butler has bust potential written all over him; his lack of production while playing at a small school against inferior competition is a major red flag.
Still, his gawdy athletic traits make him a prime candidate for Seattle to take with their first pick. I am convinced that the Seahawks will take Connor McGovern due to his athleticism and versatility, however mid third round is too early.
If the Seahawks play their cards right, this draft has everything they need to get them back to the top of the NFC.
