WORST PICK:

After selecting RB’s C.J. Prosise and Alex Collins (two outstanding prospects to go along with incumbant Thomas Rawls), there certainly didn’t seem to be a need for another backfield selection. But Seattle took Clemson back Zac Brooks with their final selection, number 247 overall). Brooks is a big back with some upside, but had limited opportunities at Clemson due to injury issues and a deep backfield. If he had only been the 2nd RB the team took this weekend, it wouldn’t look so bad. Now it just looks like a wasted pick on a player who could have been had in free agency. He looks like nothing more than a practice squad hedge against injury at this point.

Honorable Mention: Rees Odhiambo, OG, Boise State – Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Odhiambo’s upside, and he could indeed be the long-term answer at LG for this team. But, he has a long history of not being durable, and this is about the players who were still on the board at the time, particularly WSU’s Joe Dahl and Missouri’s Connor McGovern, both of whom the Hawks had been linked to for weeks. If Odhiambo never shakes the injury bug, and Dahl or McGovern turns out to be a stud, we will look back on this pick as a miss.

Overall, this looks like a great draft class, and we’ll be doing full grades soon. This might even be their best class since the franchise-transforming 2012 haul. Only time will tell, but no matter who good it is we will surely look back in time at some of these picks and agree that they didn’t work out like we had hoped.
