For the first time I decided to take on one of Keith’s shadow drafts. It was harder than I thought….

So the concept is simple; before real Seahawks GM John Schneider makes an actual draft choice, write down who you would take. It’s a chance to get a feel for what it’s like to be a GM, and an opportunity to do something that you can look back on years later and compare, contrast, evaluate….

I thought it would be fun. It was.

I thought it would be easy. It most certainly was not.

First, let’s get right to it. These are my choices compared to who Seattle actually took:

FIRST ROUND, 31ST PICK OVERALL:

Seahawks took – Germain Ifedi, OT, Texas A&M

I took – Kevin Dodd, DE, Clemson

I liked Dodd as a productive pass rusher with length, and I knew he was a VMAC visitor. I’ve thought for some time that the Hawks would go defense first because many of the offensive linemen they liked were projected to be part of a group that would last into the late 2nd to 4th round range. Clearly they were enamored with Ifedi, a player with tons of upside but also some bust potential because of poor technique. Dodd didn’t last much longer, as he was the 2nd player taken in the 2nd round by the Tennessee Titans.
