2. The Seahawks Are Just Fine At Linebacker

Much was made of Seattle drafting seven offensive players and zero linebackers after Bruce Irvin left for greener pastures this offseason. However, they offset this by aggressively going after talented linebackers in undrafted free agency, signing Oregon’s Christian French, Illinois State’s David Perkins, Rutger’s Steven Longa and East Carolina’s Montese Overton to contracts. Pete Carroll took turns raving about each of the guys, especially Longa and Overton.

On Overton: “He’s a noted pass rush guy with a lot of speed and a lot of quickness,’’

Each one brings something unique to the table. But with Wagner and KJ Wright firmly entrenched at the MIKE and WILL spots, these 4 guys will compete with Mike Morgan, Cassius Marsh, and Kevin Pierre-Louis for the SAM spot recently vacated by Bruce Irvin if they want to start.

Overton didn’t finish rookie mini-camp due to injury during day three of practice. Still, he seems like the most athletic and polished member of the group. He and French are very similar players, so they could be battling against each other for a roster spot during training camp. If he makes the roster, Perkins will most likely be a situational pass rusher off the edge because of his lack of coverage ability. Longa played the MIKE spot during rookie camp, so he will compete with Brock Coyle for the right to backup pro bowler Bobby Wagner.
