Kam Chancellor indicated that he won’t be holding out this year, so the Seattle Seahawks should be in the clear in terms of dealing with holdouts in 2016.

Seattle Seahawks fans can rest a little easier now. It looks there will be no contract holdout this year. While there are typically none most seasons, the Seahawks have multiple star players that are unhappy with their contracts.

Everyone knows Michael Bennett think he’s underpaid, and he is. He threatened to hold out a year ago, but his wife talked him out of it. It is now a year later, and lesser players are now making almost twice what Bennett is.

The possibility of a holdout for Bennett was real. Luckily he squashed those concerns last month when he said he would not hold out this season.

Kam Chancellor has been a completely different story. Despite having a market-rate deal for a strong safety, Chancellor decided to hold out a year ago trying to get more money. The holdout lasted all the way through training camp and the first two games of the regular season.

Chancellor never got the upgraded contract he wanted. He eventually reported and played, but didn’t play nearly as well as he had in past seasons.

There was legitimate fear that 2016 would again result in a contract holdout for Chancellor. The team can’t afford to have him miss time again with what Dayna called a “contract injury.”

Those fears were finally put to rest this week. Kam told Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times that there won’t be a repeat of last season’s festivities.

With Chancellor and Bennett both planning on reporting to training camp on time, the likelihood of a contract holdout become minimal for the Seahawks.

The only significant player with an expiring contract is wide receiver Doug Baldwin. The Seahawks are very deep at wide receiver, so a holdout isn’t likely to leverage the Seahawks into action.

Baldwin knows this. His agent knows this. Baldwin simply lacks the leverage necessary for a holdout to be a productive course of action. It would be a massive surprise to see Baldwin miss any practice time.

And thus Seattle Seahawks fans can stress out a little less. No mater what happens in 2016, and least we won’t be dealing with any more contract injuries.
