Seahawks suddenly short on TEs and RBs
By Keith Myers
After suffering a plethora or injuries the last two days, the Seattle Seahawks are suddenly short handed at both running back and tight end.
It’s been a weird couple of days for the Seattle Seahawks. After entering camp with tremendous depth at both RB and TE, the team is suddenly in the market at both positions.
This has been an issue at RB since about one minute into training camp when C.J. Procise injured his hamstring in the first special teams drill of the year. Thomas Rawls still has not been cleared to practice, and won’t be a full participant for a couple more weeks.
Now rookie Zac Brooks is out. He suffered a hamstring injury, and the team is unsure how long he’s going to be out.
According to Pete Carroll, that leave just two healthy backs on the roster: Christine Michael and Alex Collins. Both are being overworked now, so the team had to grab cornerback George Farmer and use him as a RB at times today.
There was mention of UDFA running back Tre Madden in any of this, which was odd. It certainly isn’t a good sign for his attempt to make the roster.
The issue is far worse at tight end. The team was already without Jimmy Graham who isn’t back from his knee injury last year. The Cooper Helfet was lost to a broken foot. All of that was before today, when they lost two players for the season with major injuries.
Losing Cottom was a terrible blow. He was the clear leader to be the team’s primary fullback, as well as a backup TE. Shields looks like a practice squad candidate. Both are now out for the 2016 season.
The Seahawks now have only four healthy TEs on the roster. They’ll almost certainly add another one in next day or two.

The Seahawks are currently struggling with depth at those two positions. It is a temporary problem though. Once Thomas Rawls and Jimmy Graham are ready to go, the team will be in good shape once again.
