The Seattle Seahawks defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 17-16 in their first preseason game.

For the most part, the Seahawks win over Kansas City in the preseason opener for both teams looked about how you would expect it to; flashes of excellence sandwiched around sloppy play by two teams who’ve only been practicing for two weeks.

From the Seattle perspective, there were things that clearly need work, and other aspects of the game that provide cause for optimism and even excitement.

So let’s get right to it, our 5 Takeaways from the Seahawks preseason win over the Chiefs.

YAY!! THE OFFENSIVE LINE WASN’T TERRIBLE!!:

Last year at this time, the Denver Broncos made the Seahawks look so bad upfront that the team made major changes in personnel the following week. It was a sign of things to come, as the play up front was a major reason Seattle limped to a 2-4 start before righting the ship.

Today, against arguably a much less explosive Kansas City front 7 missing stars Tamba Hali and Justin Houston, the line provided tremendous push in the running game and provided a clean pocket for Russell Wilson in his one drive.

Particularly impressive was the interior of the line, the biggest culprit from 2015. Justin Britt not only looked the part of center but was oustanding. His pass protection was excellent, and the interior push that he, LG Mark Glowinski and RG Germain Ifedi got in the running game allowed Christine Michael to rush for 44 yards on 7 carries in the first quarter.

And even tackles Bradley Sowell and Garry Gilliam held up well. Wilson had a perfect pocket on consecutive first down throws to Doug Baldwin on that first drive.

It’s still early and there’s a lot of work to be done, but we can at least see that this group is light year’s ahead of where they were in week #1 of the preseason a year ago.
