My Thoughts
The biggest name on here is Brandon Browner. Him being released was never a surprise though, as he had been clearly beat out for his roster spot by rookie Tyvis Powell.
Seeing Kevin Smith listed isn’t a surprise, but it is disappointing. There had been some hope that he’d made a big leap this year and be able to contribute, but he simply hasn’t been able to stay healthy.
The writing has been on the wall for super-athlete Kristjan Sokoli as well. He’s never fully made the transition from defense to offense, and the Seahawks have grown tired of waiting. His agent said on twitter that they want him to play defense again, which is telling.
Word yesterday was that Seattle was shopping Patrick Lewis hoping to find a trade partner. As a guy who had started for parts of the last 2 seasons that’s a nice thought, but he wasn’t about to attract much attention.
Jake Heaps didn’t get cut yet, but he will. He’s only still on the roster so that he can play the 2nd half of Thursday’s game. The team won’t want to make Boykin play the entire game.
Next: Brandon Browner no longer with Seattle.
This is just the first step in the process of setting the roster for the 2016 season. The tough decisions will come next week when the Seahawks have to cut 22 more players and get down to 53 on the roster.
