The Seahawks are gearing up for another Super Bowl run this season, but for that to happen the team needs their rookies to step up and make significant contributions.

The preseason is finally over and we are less than a week away from the Seahawks playing Miami to start the regular season.  When the 53-man roster was announced on Saturday there were an astonishing 14 rookies, including 6 UDFAs, that made the roster.

Let’s look at 5 of those rookies that will make positive impacts to the Seahawks’ success this season.

Tanner McEvoy

McEvoy started his time with the Seahawks as a safety, but was eventually switched to wide receiver during training camp and didn’t look back.  His preseason debut made headlines with an impressive 37-yard Hail Mary catch with no time left on the clock.

Maybe even more remarkable was the fact that he barely had to extend himself to win the “jump ball”, as his height eliminated the necessity of jumping.  Being a 6’ 6” wide receiver will pose matchup problems for opposing defenses throughout the season.

McEvoy is a player with nice versatility as he played quarterback, safety, and wide receiver during his time at University of Wisconsin.   His flexibility in changing positions will help with the different roles he will play on offense and especially special teams this season.

Initially, McEvoy’s biggest contributions will be on special teams and the coaches will ask him to do a lot in this department.  Don’t be surprised, though, if McEvoy starts making big catches earlier than expected this season.

His size, athleticism and versatility will be a valuable asset to the Seahawks’ offense all year, especially in the red zone.
